Privacy Notice

Last updated: October 2026

Jo Ellis Therapy takes your privacy seriously. This notice explains how I collect, use and protect your personal information when you contact me or work with me as a client.

Who I am

Jo Ellis Therapy is operated by Jo Ellis. I am responsible for the personal information I hold about you.

Information I collect

If you contact me or become a client, I may collect your name, contact details, information you provide in an enquiry, appointment and payment information, and brief counselling notes.

As counselling involves discussing personal matters, some of the information you choose to share with me may be sensitive and may include information about your health, wellbeing, relationships or personal circumstances.

How I use your information

I use your information only as necessary to respond to enquiries, arrange and provide counselling, maintain appropriate professional records, process payments and meet my professional, legal and insurance responsibilities.

How your information is stored

Electronic records are stored securely on password-protected devices. Counselling notes are identified using a client code wherever practicable, with identifying and contact information kept separately. I use a dedicated email account for my counselling practice.

Confidentiality

What you discuss in counselling is confidential. I discuss my clinical work in professional supervision, but identifying information is kept to a minimum.

There are limited circumstances in which I may need to share information, for example where there is a serious risk of harm, a safeguarding concern or a legal requirement to disclose information. Wherever possible and appropriate, I would discuss this with you first.

Services I use

I use Squarespace to operate this website and receive website enquiries, Google Gmail for practice email, Zoom for online counselling sessions and Monzo for business banking. Online counselling sessions are not recorded.

This website restricts non-essential cookies. Squarespace may use cookies that are necessary for the operation and security of the website.

How long I keep information

Client and counselling records are normally retained for three years after our work together ends, after which they are securely deleted, unless there is a professional, legal or insurance reason to retain them for longer.

Financial information may be retained for longer where required for tax or legal purposes. Information from enquiries that do not lead to counselling will be deleted when it is no longer needed.

Your rights

You have rights in relation to your personal information, including the right to request access to it and, in certain circumstances, to ask for information to be corrected, deleted or its use restricted.

If you have any questions about how I handle your information, please contact me at joellistherapy@gmail.com.

You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Changes to this notice

I may update this privacy notice from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this website
